Breen's Lumber Inc. -RED PINE REFORESTATION EXPERTS- Welcome to Breen’s Lumber Inc. Sustainable production for 47 years & counting! Tim Breen Sr. Founder, Owner & President Tim Breen Jr. Harvesting Operations Manager John Breen Mill Operations Manager Chantelle Breen Sales & Office Manager J.T. Breen Mill Assistant Keira Breen Office Assistant 1/2 We are involved in every step of creating the final product. From purchasing timber and harvesting forests to trucking the logs, milling, drying, planing, and selling the lumber, Breen’s Lumber controls every step of the process. We even generate our own electricity on site! In 1979, Tim Breen Sr started what would become Breen's Lumber as a small backyard lumber and planing mill. Through decades of hard work, determination and commitment, that small mill grew into one of Southern Ontario's largest family-owned lumber manufacturers. More than 45 years later, Tim Breen Sr still comes to work every day and remains actively involved in the company he built. Today, Breen's Lumber is a multi-generational family business, with Tim Jr. managing the harvesting operations, John managing the mill, Chantelle handling sales, customer service and office operations, J.T. learning the trade while working alongside John in the mill, and Keira assisting with day-to-day office operations, customer service, and sales. Together, we continue to build on the foundation Tim Sr established, carrying forward the work ethic, commitment, and dedication to responsible forestry that have defined Breen’s Lumber from the beginning. We are constantly investing in our equipment, facilities and operations to improve efficiency, maintain product quality and support local jobs in our community. We also strive to make use of every part of the tree. Shavings, sawdust, wood chips, and bark are all collected and utilized, allowing us to operate with minimal waste while maximizing the value of every log we process. Responsible forestry is at the heart of what we do. Through selective harvesting practices and careful forest management, we work to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of the forests we depend on. Our rubber tired harvesting equipment minimizes soil disturbance and environmental impact while allowing us to selectively harvest trees and promote healthy forest regeneration. Breen's Lumber offers private landowners a full range of forest management services tailored to their goals, whether that means generating income, improving wildlife habitat, enhancing recreational opportunities, or maintaining the natural beauty of their property. JUMP TO FAQ PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A PRICE LIST AND DOES NOT REFLECT CURRENT STOCK Frequently Asked Questions Lumber & Wood Information General Pressure Treated Lumber Tongue and Groove & Shiplap Yard Policies Why does your lumber contain knots, colour variation, and other natural characteristics? Trees don’t grow in perfect straight lines with identical colour and grain. Knots, colour variation, grain patterns, and other natural characteristics are a normal part of real wood. These features are what make natural lumber unique and are not considered defects. Is sap stain a defect? No. Sap stain is considered a natural characteristic and cosmetic condition rather than a defect. How should I store my lumber until I use it? Store lumber flat, level, and off the ground. Keep it protected from direct sunlight and weather, as exposure in unbundled lumber can cause boards to dry unevenly and increase the risk of warping, and twisting. If storing for an extended period, ensure air can circulate around the lumber and avoid trapping moisture under plastic coverings. What do you consider a defect? Natural characteristics such as knots, sap stain, grain variation, colour variation, checking etc are not considered defects as they are normal characteristics of real wood products. How long will rough cut pine last outdoors? Untreated pine exposed to the elements will typically last 5 to 15 years, depending on weather conditions and moisture exposure. When properly protected with a quality stain, paint, or wood preservative and maintained over time, pine can often last 15 to 25 years or more. Do you carry board and batten? Yes. We manufacture our own Board and Batten siding and stock it in 1x6, 1x8, 1x10, and 1x12 sizes. Why does lumber sometimes warp after purchase? Wood continues to respond to changes in temperature and humidity after it leaves the mill. Improper storage, direct sunlight, excessive moisture, and poor airflow can contribute to warping, cupping, bowing twisting etc. Do you cut your own lumber? Yes, we do. The lumber we sell has been handled and processed by us from stump to finish! Can you cut lumber to a custom length for me? No. We do not offer custom cuts, products are sold only in the lengths and dimensions we manufacture. Is sap stain the same as mold? No. Sap stain is a natural discolouration within the wood that can appear blue, grey, black, or brown. Unlike mold, the colour extends into the wood and may remain visible even after the surface is cleaned. Sap stain does not affect the strength of the lumber and is not considered a defect. Can you kiln dry my lumber for me? No. Our kiln is dedicated to drying lumber produced at Breen’s Lumber and is generally full with our own material. We do not offer kiln drying services for customer supplied lumber. What species of wood do you sell? Most of the lumber we produce is Red Pine. We may occasionally have other species available, but Red Pine makes up the majority of our inventory. What is kiln dried lumber? Kiln dried lumber is wood that has been dried in a controlled environment to reduce its moisture content before being sold. At Breen’s Lumber, we dry our lumber in our on-site kiln. Drying the lumber helps improve stability and reduces the amount of shrinking, twisting, and cupping, that can occur as wood continues to dry after installation. Can you cut boards in half for me? No. We do not offer custom cutting. Our saws are production equipment and are not set up for customer cuts. Please call us for a quote! 1-705-835-5235
